    A lot of people, for some reason, don’t consider blogs to be social media, but last time I checked Wikipedia listed blogs in their definition of social media. The thing that most people get wrong is they don’t make their blog social media friendly. The result is you’re blog is more like a regular website than it is a blog.

    Don’t get me wrong you can use Wordpress, Blogger, or any blog CMS (content management system) to turn it into a different type of site such as a sales page, opt in page, affiliate review site… but you should still have a blog that works like a normal blog.

    If you are using any form of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube where do you send your visitors? Or worse do you send them anywhere?

    I send them to my blog and you should too. Most people on other social media sites are looking for interesting information and interaction. If they like your YouTube videos, twitter post… then they will be interested to see what other cool information you have and to interact with you more.

    So the ideal place for them to go is your blog. You should want them to go to your blog – it should be your home base for interaction. You should link to it from the other social media sites that you are a part of.

    Why should your blog be your social media home? Because you have more control over the content of your blog than any other form of social media. Therefore the visitor from the other social media sites can go to your site and then you can direct them to sign up for your list or buy a product from you.

    So here’s what you do…

    Go to Twitter post a tweet about one of your blog post, put a link in your twitter background about your blog so that whenever someone comes to your twitter profile page they can go to your blog to see more of your content and interact with you.

    It’s hard to sell to social media traffic, you should always try to entertain them and build up trust with them and to do that a blog is a powerful tool, then when they are on your blog you transition them into signing up to your list or buying your product.

    Following this simple traffic funnel method you can get tons of visitors to your site, you just have to do it. Just make sure you make your blog social media friendly allow people to post comments easily. Then make sure you post some good content related to what you are selling or giving away. Finally make sure you make it easy for them to sign up for your list or buy your products. Then create a video related to that content and link to your blog, create some tweets about your blog post and do that over and over, soon you will be getting tons of traffic to your blog. Just do it once you have the blog post the rest is easy.

    Remember there’s massive free traffic from these sites and if you do it correctly you can get a massive amount of new visitors onto your blog and into your business take advantage of it!

    Personally, I use my real name and photo on all my blogs as you can see. I stand by everything I write and by my guest writers. There is no need to hide behind a false identity.

  • Unrealistic expectations!

    If you come to blogging expecting instant results: a large readership and many complimentary comments, you may be disappointed. There are tens of thousands of blogs online vying for the same audience. Patience and tenacity are essential on your part. If you write well, find a unique niche to fill, have appealing titles for your posts and tirelessly promote your blog the readership and comments (some of which will be complimentary) will come.

  • Losing focus!

    When you started your blog you had a particular reason for doing so; it might have been to express your views on a topic or it might have been to just communicate with a close circle of friends about your daily activities. Readers will come to your blog for the first time and either be interested in your subject matter or not, will either like your style or not and, if they like your subject and style they may comment and then come back later.

    Find a focus for your blog . . . a focus that reflects what you know, what interests you and what you enjoy talking and writing about. No topics are out of bounds: politics, religion, science, sexual orientations, comedy, exercise, diet, diseases, etc., etc.. Once you've established a topic and tone for your blog you're free to change it but to do so you're basically starting all over.

  • Plagiarizing!

    There are some great bloggers out there and as you surf through blogs you might find one who said something really well, something that resonated with you and something you want to put in your blog. Do not copy and paste an article written by someone else into your blog without giving them credit, making it look to the world like the words are yours. You can re-write it in your own words, perhaps write it better, adding your own thoughts and feelings. But, be honest and mention where you got the idea and provide a link to the original source.

    For example, many of my blog posts are born from private label articles that I have purchased. I take the original, rewrite it, and post. I am not ashamed to admit this because of the sheer volume of content I must create for my 15 other blogs.

    I see my role as an Internet Reporter. I search out valuable information and blog about it.

  • Ignoring the reader!

    Some of the people who read your blog will leave comments; some readers will agree with you and some readers may even praise your insights but most will pick a point you've made and criticize it. People leave comments on others blogs for the same reason they themselves blog, to exchange ideas and express their points of view. Always respond to your readers comments; thank them for reading and taking the time to comment (even the severe critics) and then respond, as appropriate, to their comment. If you ignore your comments your readers may end up ignoring your blog.
